On August 12, 2023, more than 60 vehicles cruised into the small town of Hinton, AB, for the CSN Cascade “Cruz’in for Cancer Car Show”.

The charity car show was a fundraising event to raise much-needed funds for two local families facing the devastating effects of cancer.   In towns like Hinton, where everyone knows each other, news like this affects the entire community.

Upon hearing the sad news, CSN Cascade felt driven to help both families and decided that it would take a community response to give the families the resources needed to navigate the challenges ahead.

Leading the way was the shop’s CRC, Theran Grinnell with support from Repair Coordinator, Krista Schappert and Location Manager, Keith Schappert.

Recognizing the high volume of car enthusiasts in the region and having the space to accommodate vehicles, the Cruzin’ for Cancer car show was born.

The show attracted more than 200 visitors from Hinton and surrounding areas to get up close to rat rods, classic cars, and custom-built vehicles.  When asked about the success of the show Keith Schappert said, “It is amazing to see how surrounding communities support each other in a time of need”.

Burgers from Gus’ Pizza Place and hot dogs, courtesy of Heidelberg’s fueled further fundraising and kept tired engines running.

While perusing the show, spectators had the opportunity to vote for their favorite vehicle.  The winner, Stephen Holland took home the “People’s Choice” trophy for his blue Barracuda.

CSN Cascade is proud to share that the show raised over $7500 thanks to Hinton and its neighbouring towns that came together to support a good cause.

“I loved being able to see the community and surrounding communities such as Jasper, Grande Cache, and Edson and our team at CSN Cascade come together to help. It was a really uplifting and rewarding experience, and I think we pulled it off! I am super proud of the crew here!” says Theran Grinnell.
